Making E-Learning Work In Retail

Back

Retail is characterised by an enormous staff and a large number of suppliers hence staff turnover is relatively high when compared to other industries. Stores and the supply base are scattered geographically and it becomes strenuous to have these scattered groups come together for training and development. Moreover in case of the supply base, language also becomes an issue.

More and more retailers have broadband access to their stores.  More store systems are “web-enabled”.  Your new recruits are increasingly PC and browser literate.  In many cases, the same is true of your suppliers.

E-learning, web-based learning, DVD training, call it what you will, is ideal for this environment and works equally well in stores, headquarters and your supply base.  It has many advantages:

  • While it is quite often more expensive to develop, it is cheap to run.  The economics favour large audiences.

  • Individuals can be trained one at a time at hours to suit them and their work schedules.

  • Training can be monitored to see how well, each student did and to assess the effectiveness of the program.

But, it hasn’t all been plain sailing for retailers that have adopted this technology.  Sometimes the training is less than engaging.  The student may find it hard to get their questions answered.  The material may have to be re-written more often if the initial design was bad.

However, the sheer rate of change of the Internet and associated technology is making many improvements possible.

This conference will showcase examples from leading retailers and describe the secrets of their success.  At the end of the day you will leave with:

  • A clear understanding of what works and what doesn’t.

  • An up to date knowledge of best practice in this area.

  • A host of ideas on how you can deploy e-learning successfully.

  • A comprehensive conference manual containing valuable reference material well as copies of presentations.

  • Networks of contacts that will help you explore new ideas in future.

This event will benefit executives and managers from Store Operations, Buying & Merchandising, Sourcing, Supply Chain, Human Resources, Training and IT.  We strongly recommend that you bring your colleagues from other functional areas to get the most from the day.  To facilitate this, we are offering one free ticket for every two paid tickets.   Due to the generous support of our sponsors, Martec International and Zensar Technologies, this event is only £350 per person.
