Web-based three tier solution for UK's leading retailer

The Client

UK's leading retailer of clothing, foods, home ware and financial services, serving 10 million customers a week in over 300 UK stores. The Company also trades in 30 countries worldwide, and has a group turnover in excess of £8 billion.

The benefits

The solution has yielded following benefits:

  • The PIR Report prepared by the client's team onsite has indicated that the project has delivered benefits in excess of £300K since Go-Live.
  • The feedback given by business users and main stakeholders has indicated that it is an extremely useful tool.

The Solution

Zensar’s approach was to develop three-tier architecture. The system was developed as a web-based application hosted on IIS 5.0 on windows 2000 server. The front-end was browser based, middle-tier was developed in VB, and back-end was MS SQL 2000 and OLAP server to hold data and run cubes.

The Challenge

The customer was looking for a mature vendor for the use of cube, explaining the cube design, and helping them in approval process was a difficult task.

  • Restrict the data to be shown to suppliers based on access rules.
  • Integrate with other live system – CMS.
