Migration to a new database system to comply with statutory laws for a UK based Utilities Conglomorate


Client

The client is the owner and operator of the high-voltage power transmission system in UK.

Challenge

The client requirement was to migrate to a new database system that confirmed to the New Electricity Trading Arrangements (NETA), which is a trading, settlements and balancing framework for energy (electricity) distributed over a wide geographical region. The project involved designing interfaces with heterogeneous source systems using bespoke component and managing of over 1 terabyte of data. A Large number of complex integration of tools, including FAME Time Series, Oracle 9i Database, and Cognos multidimensional database was a part of the project. The client requirements had stringent schedule delivery.

Solution

Zensar gave a consultancy for NED Project Assurance which involves participating in the feasibility study, requirements capturing, tools evaluation and building the NED E-R logical model as well as the data model for the data warehouse and Time Series database. It also involves reviewing and giving significant suggestions for Functional Specifications, Design, System Testing and Project Handover documents and identifying individual milestones within the project life cycle and managing to finish well in time.

Advantage

The client was able to achieve a smooth migration into the new regulatory framework with the minimum lead time.
