Environment

Reducing our carbon footprint and efficiently managing water and waste at all our locations are critical to our success. We are committed to addressing the short- and long-term risks of climate change on our business and partnering with organizations and communities to create positive change. We monitor how our resources are used and actively track and report our progress to drive performance and achieve our environmental goals.

Our goals

Goal 1:

Achieve Net Zero GHG emissions by FY 2040

At Zensar, managing and using environmental resources, including energy, is essential to our business. We are committed to conserving energy, using renewable energy, and improving operational efficiency. And to achieve this, we have implemented key projects to reduce our environmental impact and achieve our Net Zero goal by 2040. We have also begun participating as voluntary respondents to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).

To address the urgent climate challenges the world faces today, we are happy to share that we have taken comprehensive, well-architected measures to increase the share of our renewable energy consumption beyond 6.92 percent as of FY 2022 and reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions.

Sub-goal:

50 percent reduction in energy performance index by FY 2030

Zensar has taken critical initiatives ranging from energy-efficient lighting to optimizing energy consumption for HVAC and other systems to minimize our energy footprint. We undertake regular energy audits and are on track to phase out UPS systems. We have also replaced 95 percent of our desktops with laptops leading to a significant reduction in energy consumption.

Goal 2:

Become water positive by FY 2025

To ensure that we are part of the solution to the global water crisis, we have strongly focused on conserving water and using it efficiently in our facilities. Critical initiatives to meet our water-positive goal include groundwater recharge, drip irrigation, sensor-based taps in washrooms, and an in-house sewage treatment plant (STP) that recycles around 80 percent of the consumed water every day. We continue to optimize water supply and demand through rainwater harvesting and developing watershed structures to lower consumption and achieve water positivity.

Sub-goals:

Zero water discharge facilities by FY 2025
Our planet's vulnerable communities face challenges accessing clean and safe water. We have set a goal to achieve zero water wastage by FY 2025 and have taken constructive steps in that direction.

Zero waste to landfill by FY 2025

Recognizing the urgent need to protect the world's ecosystems, equal access to a healthy environment for all, and reduce carbon emissions from waste disposal, we have taken a circular approach to materials management, reducing waste, and keeping products and materials in use, particularly at our Pune campus. There's a significant opportunity to unlock the triple bottom line with circularity — delivering societal, environmental, and economic benefits.
